Luella "Toots" L. Streit, 76, died Friday, December 14, 2012 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Luella was born August 19, 1936 in Reading, the daughter of Henry and Stena (Groninga) Frey. She attended school in Wheaton. She was united in marriage to Donald Baker in 1957. The couple resided in Villard, where they operated the Villard Cafe until 1964. At that time, the family moved to Fall Creek, Wisconsin, where they purchased an on and off sale liquor store.

In 1968, Luella was married to Gerald Streit. They resided in Ludington, WI, where she owned and operated Streit's Pineview Tavern. In 1993, Luella then moved to the Alexandria area to be closer to her daughter and sister.

Luella was known as “Toots” most of her life. She worked for many years at the Klothes Kloset. Toots took pride in her work and loved to help others who were in need. Toots was also known as a proud “Packer Backer.” She said she would bleed green and loved every quarterback the team played. One of her most treasured memories was a trip to Lambeau Field this past August for a pre-season football game.

Toots was a spunky woman who had a quick wit and a funny sense of humor. She loved the holidays and especially the 4th of July. She displayed the American flag with honor and even had flags on her treasured car, Daisy. She was proud to be an American patriot.

She was the “rock” in her family. Toots always took time to listen and help figure out someone’s life problems. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Pat) Luedtke of Osakis; grandchildren, Nate (Angela) Walter of Westport, Dawn Walter (fiancé, Jeff Mueller) of Rogers, Jess Reinke (fiancé, Shawn Snyder) of Eagan; four great-grandchildren, Tyus, Laureen, Milton and Levi; two step-great-grandchildren; sister, Marlys (David) Dehnke of Alexandria; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Streit; son, Donald Baker Jr.; brother, Wayne Frey; sister, Esther Osborn; and Donald Baker Sr.

A funeral service was held Thursday, December 20 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Interment was at Lake Leven Cemetery near Villard. Casket bearers were Brad and Nick Schmidt, Todd Bork, Gib Pecha, Shawn Snyder and Jeff Mueller.

Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria; www.andersonfuneral.net.
