In response to Governor Mark Dayton’s Executive Order 12-04, the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) has released a report evaluating wetland regulation and conservation policy in Minnesota.
The report identifies both wetland policy issues and potential solutions to be considered by the Governor and legislators. Key findings and recommendations in the report focused on: defining policy goals and measures of protection and success, enhanced interagency cooperation, and targeting of wetland mitigation.
BWSR staff worked in cooperation with the Pollution Control Agency, Departments of Natural Resources, Transportation, Agriculture and invited stakeholders to further advance the long-term protection and enhancement of Minnesota’s wetland resources. John Jaschke, BWSR Executive Director said of the process, “BWSR recognizes the critical value wetlands provide for water storage, water quality and habitat. Improving wetland policy will acknowledge the vital purposes they serve.”
