Alexandria girls' basektball: Cardinal fall to Sauk Centre
It was tough going in the second half for the Cardinal girls, who scored just six points in a 35-29 loss to Class AA’s No. 3 ranked Sauk Centre Thursday night.
“We played a near perfect first half, but struggled to finish in the second,” said head coach Wendy Kohler. “We made it extremely difficult for Sauk on the offensive end as well, but at the end of the day, they finished more plays for the win.”
Sauk Centre keyed in on Alexandria’s leading scorer, Amanda Christianson, holding her to just seven points in the game.
The Cardinals held the lead at the half 23-16, but were unable to hold on as the Mainstreeters took the lead with less than nine minutes remaining as Sydney Zenzen hit a free throw to make it 27-26.
Alexandria was to host Brainerd last night, Tuesday. They will host Sauk Rapids on Friday night.
