Alexandria girls' hockey: Iverson notches hat trick in win
By: Lori Mork, Alexandria Echo Press
Shelby Iverson’s hat trick led the Cardinal girls to their second win in Central Lakes Conference play and sent the Willmar Cardinals home with a 4-2 loss.
“The teams sparred through the first period with Alexandria controlling play, shots and taking a 1-0 lead into the locker room on [Shelby’s] power play goal that came off a great feed from 8th grader McKenzie Revering,” said Cardinal head coach Andy Shriver.
“Shelby added a second score early in the second period on passes from line mates Madi Houska and Becca Illies.”
Willmar closed the gap as Brittney Serbus scored five seconds into a power play, but Iverson came back to complete her hat trick near the end of the period on feeds from Lauren Niska and Illies.
Willmar again cut into Alexandria’s lead on a goal early in the third by Brooke Mayer, but the home team wasn’t through as Anna Carlsen ended the scoring on an empty net play with 12 seconds remaining in the game.
Bailey Serum made 13 saves in goal as Alexandria outshot Willmar 35-15.
Alexandria was slated to host the St. Cloud Icebreakers last night, Tuesday, and will be at Hopkins tomorrow night.
