Four elected officials in Douglas County discussed salaries with commissioners for the coming year at Tuesday’s board meeting. Salaries will be set at the December 27 county commissioners’ meeting.
Auditor/Treasurer Char Rosenow requested a 1.8 percent increase, which would raise her pay from $83,000 to $84,500. In 2011, she requested $84,000.
Last year, County Attorney Chad Larson asked for nothing above what was considered for other officials.
This year, Larson brought some research to the table and pointed out to commissioners that he is being paid less than other county attorneys in comparison to 10 counties smaller than Douglas.
Presently, Larson is paid $71,300, with an additional $18,000 from the hospital for an annual salary of $89,300. He did not make a percentage or dollar increase request but asked that the commissioners take the information presented into consideration.
Larson has 13 years’ experience as a county attorney with two in Douglas County. Rosenow attested to Larson’s dedication to the job, citing his performance during the recent recounts.
County Recorder Dawn Crouse requested a 2.5 percent increase, which would raise her salary from $62,400 to just over $63,960. Crouse said it has been a busier year as far as income in the recorder’s office. Last year’s request was for $63,037.
Sheriff Troy Wolbersen proposed an increase of $1,950, $75 per pay period, in 2013. The increase would set Wolbersen’s salary at $90,950. In 2011, Wolbersen requested $92,869 and was granted $89,000 – a total less than his chief deputy.
Senior Human Resources Representative Heather Schlangen, sitting in for Coordinator Bill Schalow, reported that all department heads’ reviews were satisfactory.
Commissioners noted that they themselves have not taken an increase in their $26,000 annual compensation in recent years; their pay will be discussed at the December 27 meeting as well.
