Wrestling: Minnewaska tops Browerville, has one champ at Willmar Classic

With four forfeit victories to add to their total, the Minnewaska Laker wrestlers picked up their second win of the season, defeating Browerville 43-22 Tuesday night.

Minnewaska also earned wins by fall from Caleb Blaisdell at 138 pounds and Brad Jacobs at 195 pounds.

WILLMAR CLASSIC

The Minnewaska wrestling team finished ninth at the Willmar Cardinal Classic last Friday and got an individual first-place finish from Joseph Weaver.

Weaver dominated his way through the bracket at 106 pounds. He pinned his first two opponents in less than two minutes before taking care of Luke Dorn from St. Cloud Tech in 3:34 to take the championship.

The Lakers added runner-up finishes from Taylor Lundebreck and Brad Jacobs, as well. Lundebreck earned wins by fall in less than two minutes against his first two opponents at 182 pounds. He then narrowly fell to KMS’ Austin Rothers in a 2-1 decision in the championship.

Jacobs also had a close call in his title match against Jorge Munoz-Peterson of KMS. Munoz-Peterson was able to hold him off for a 4-1 win at 195 pounds after Jacobs took care of Willmar’s Jalen Cabrera in the semifinals. Minnewaska’s JR Formo rounded out the scoring for the Lakers with a sixth-place finish at 220 pounds.

KMS won the team title with 216 points behind seven first-place finishes. Willmar was second at 211.50, while Quad County rounded out the top three with 137.50 points.
