Boys' basketball: Ashby rolls past Osakis, West Central Area defeats Swanville
The Arrows had four players in double figures
The Ashby boys’ basketball team finished with four players in double figures and had nine players score at least six points in an 87-49 win over Osakis on Tuesday night.
“I was really pleased with our balance tonight,” head coach Jeremy Knick said. “In the first half, we did a good job scoring the ball, but we had a hard time getting organized on defense.”
That kept the Silverstreaks within 13 points at the break. Things changed after halftime though as the Arrows outscored Osakis 40-15. J.P. Moe led the way with 17 points, five rebounds and six assists. Dylan Barry added 14 points. Tanner Langlie had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Blake Ohren finished with 10 points and nine assists.
Lane Berberich had the best night of his career after going 4-for-4 from three for Osakis. The junior guard finished with a team-high 16 points and was the only Silverstreaks player in double figures. Doug Zimmel added nine points, while Hunter Scherr chipped in seven.
“Positive of the game for us is that Lane Berberich provided a big spark off the bench,” Osakis head coach Matt Hoelscher said. “He was aggressive on offense and got our team going in the first half as we shot our way back into it and made a run at the end of the half. Ashby was athletic, which caused some matchup problems for us. They wore us down on the glass and in transition.”

WEST CENTRAL AREA 63, SWANVILLE 57
Dakotah Kashmark scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists as the West Central Area boys defeated Swanville 63-57 Tuesday night.
“We executed well in the last 10 mintues of the first half to build a nice lead,” said head coach Kraig Hunter. “Swanville has a nice group of strong, athletic players and they made some nice runs down the stretch.
“Even though it got to be a little bit of an ugly win, you take any kind of win you can get on the road. Our kids got some key defensive stops when we needed to in a physical game and a loud gym.”
Drew Peterson contributed 12 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Knights.
“Drew is our only senior and he is just a phenomenal leader and competitor,” said Hunter. “It is amazing what he does night in and night out for being 5’11”. I’ve never seen him take a play off in practice or a game in four years. He just has a knack for getting to the ball.”
West Central Area hosted Browerville last night, Thursday.
