Osakis’ Trenton Coyer bested a field of Class AAA opponents at 113 pounds during the Shakopee Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday to capture individual championship honors and help the Silverstreaks to a seventh place team finish.
Host Shakopee, ranked No. 11 in the State Class AAA polls, and Rochester Mayo, recipient of a Lean and Mean (also receiving votes) spot, took the top two team finishes.
Coyer received a bye in the first round, then pinned Shawn Barth of Lakeville South before defeating Jake Baker of Roseville by a 13-3 major decision in the championship.
Brendon Coyer wasn’t far behind his brother, finishing second at 106 pounds as he defeated Bryce Hill of Bloomington Kennedy by an 8-0 major decision, then pinned Sam Hoopingarner of Prescott, Wisconsin in the semifinals. He fell to No. 10 ranked Alex Lloyd of Shakopee 9-4 in the championship.
Ryan Engfer, 126 pounds; Brandon Spanswick, 170 pounds; and Garret Scherr, 220 pounds, all finished fourth, with Colton Waldvogel, 120 pounds, claiming a fifth place finish.

Trenton Coyer, Ryan Engfer, Garret Scherr and Peter Hagen each picked up three wins during Osakis wrestling action last week.
The Silverstreaks split their action at the Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus triangular on Tuesday, falling to the host Road Crew 40-24 before coming back with a 39-30 win over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale.
Osakis picked up a pair of pins in the loss to the Lean and Mean PLPRB squad as Coyer earned a 3:42 fall at 113 pounds and Mitch Sunder earned a 53 second pin at 195 pounds.
In the victory over BHV, Osakis paired three forfeits with pins by Tyler Spanswick at 170 pounds (1:50) and Scherr at 220 pounds (1:55) to highlight the nine-point victory.
Thursday night the Silverstreaks defeated Ottertail Central 49-21 behind six pins.
Brendon Coyer started things out with a 1:09 fall at 103 pounds, and Colton Waldvogel earned a 3:20 pin at 120 pounds.
Austin Rollag pinned his opponent in 2:38 at 160 pounds before Brandon Spanswick earned a 1:46 fall at 182 pounds.
Scherr slapped his opponent to the mat in just 22 seconds at 220 pounds and Hagen claimed a fall at 285 pounds in 1:50.
The Silverstreaks hosted a triangular last night, Tuesday and will host a quadrangular on Friday. They don’t wrestle again until Friday, December 21 when they host another triangular.

Osakis won both of its matches during the Silverstreaks’ home triangular Tuesday night, defeating Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 52-27 and Eden Valley-Watkins 51-27.
Picking up victories on pins in both matches were Brendon Coyer at 106 pounds, Trenton Coyer at 113 pounds, Colton Waldvogel at 120 pounds, and Garret Scherr at 220/285 pounds.
Osakis also earned a pair of forfeit victories in both matches.
The Silverstreaks host another meet tonight, Friday, with three teams coming to Osakis.
