Girls' basketball: Savageau's 31 paces Osakis
The Silverstreaks picked up their fifth straight victory with a 72-56 win over Long Prairie-Grey EagleBy: Lori Mork, Alexandria Echo Press
It was a two-person scoring battle as Osakis’ Annalise Savageau and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle’s Jenna Langer fired away Tuesday night in a contest that saw the Silverstreaks come away with a 72-56 road win.
Savageau poured in a career-high 31 points in the win, while Langer put up 28.
“[It was] a great first road win for our team this season,” said head coach Pat Kalpin. “I didn’t know how we’d respond to playing away from home for the first time.
“The girls came out with great energy and played inspired and focused. We were able to build an early 12-13 point lead, but let them back in the game with us leading 38-32 at halftime.
“Long Prairie-Grey Eagle gave us some match-up problems, especially in the first half,” said the Silverstreak coach. “I felt that we adjusted and played a better defensive game in the second half, and were able to sustain and build our lead as the game went on.
“I felt offensively that we moved the ball well, took good shots and limited our turnovers. Annalise stepped up big. She was able to get some points in the open court.
“The play of Brooke Sorenson and Madi Forsell on both ends of the court were keys in our win as well. Both shot the ball well and, defensively, played solid.
“Brittney Sadlemyer gave us a spark off the bench in the post. She led us in rebounding with 11 and was able to score nine points as well.”
Osakis, which is now 5-0 overall, hosted Melrose last night, Thursday, and will be at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa on Monday.
