Letter - MnDOT wants input on turnabout

At Cross Country Road, it gets bumped up to 55 mph for one-half mile, then you will have to get on the brakes for a “turnabout” (most trucks would have maximum speed of 10-15 mph) at County 87 and the new intersection for County 28 West. Why destroy the 2012 traffic flow improvement?

The drive between Alexandria and Glenwood has considerably improved after the 2012 road construction project, with turning lanes in both directions. But the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s 2014-2015 construction plans have a downside to that improved traffic flow pattern.

Take note that the four lanes will be extended south of I-94 to County 87. The speed limit will remain 50 mph from the airport to Traut Wells. At Cross Country Road, it gets bumped up to 55 mph for one-half mile, then you will have to get on the brakes for a “turnabout” (most trucks would have maximum speed of 10-15 mph) at County 87 and the new intersection for County 28 West.

Why destroy the 2012 traffic flow improvement? Maybe bring the four-lanes only to the knoll by auto Plaza of Alexandria (formerly Lee Motors) and put turning lanes at this new intersection, like at Forada’s/Douglas County 4 or Villard’s/Pope County 28.
