Olson still wins District 5 after recount

Douglas County Commissioner Dan Olson will continue to represent District 5 in 2013. Olson picked up one vote in today’s recount giving him a total of 1,532. Challenger Carol Wenner’s total remained the same as in November’s election, 1,511.
Wenner initially challenged the one ballot but withdrew her request less than 20 minutes later. Wenner submitted a written request for the recount on November 26.
The Douglas County auditor/treasurer’s office met at 9 a.m. Friday, December 7 to publically count ballots cast in Alexandria’s ward 3, ward 4 and ward 5 precinct 2 where “obvious errors” were discovered after the canvassing board met on November 15. The recount wrapped up just before 2:30 p.m.
The canvassing board will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 10 to certify the results.
