Praise FM Radio, with its offices in Osakis, has strong listenership of about 50,000 people in the Central Minnesota-South Dakota area, and now the station once again has a resident station director and an office manager.
Mark Herringshaw is the new station director and announcer, and his wife, Jill, is the new office manager for the entire Praise FM network.
They moved to Osakis in September with their son, Michael, who is a freshman at Osakis High School.
Mark joined Praise FM nine months ago in the Twin Cities, and spent about six months on-air. He had served as a pastor for 25 years, since 1993 in the Twin Cities area, and wanted to get back into communications.
The couple met at Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Santa Cruz, California, but Jill had moved there from Minnesota to study music and communications. They were married 30 years ago, and later Mark earned his Ph.D. in organizational leadership at Regent University.
The couple has three other children, Emily, who works in theater in Minneapolis; Elisabeth, who will graduate in December from Northwestern College, and Matthew, a student at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.
Mark said he’s excited about his new position at Praise FM. “I want to build the bridge between the community and the station, and listen to the needs that are there. I want to see Praise FM as an extension of the community in this region.”
He said in addition to this area’s 50,000 loyal listeners there are another 50,000 to 60,000 listeners in the Twin Cities area, and about 200,000 who listen online in 154 countries.
Mark said he plans to visit area churches, speak at business lunches and other functions, getting to know the people.
“It is important that we hear what people are feeling,” he said.
Programming additions are also on the docket. While a lot of Praise FM’s daily programs are network-wide, there is a segment from 6-9 a.m. each day that originates in Osakis and is broadcast just to the Central Minnesota-South Dakota listeners. Plans for this segment include doing live interviews with local business people, groups like the Osakis Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as groups from around West Central Minnesota and South Dakota.
New partnerships are also in the works.
“We have an amazing platform to reach outward,” Mark said. “What can worshipers do together for God?”
In December, Praise FM will partner with the Union Gospel Mission living out its mission to help those around us.
A partnership with One Hope in Florida is also being developed. One Hope distributes Bibles to children around the world, and has already distributed 860 million Bibles world-wide.
Other potential projects and partnerships may include anti-human trafficking in India, and helping underdeveloped villages around the world.
One day a year will be set aside to raise funds for these ministries. The semi-annual Praise FM Phone-athons will continue to be held in October and in the spring each year.
Mark can be heard on-air daily from 3-6 p.m. network-wide.
Other familiar voices on KBHL Praise FM are Jackson “Jack” Zitzmann, former KBHL station director Dave McIver, who now serves as Praise FM executive director in the Twin Cities, and Michele Sorvik, who actually records her time slot from 12-3 p.m. from Duluth.
When Mark is not involved with Praise FM, he coaches new pastors by telephone conference calls. He expects to coach three groups in 2013. He also has written three books.
Jill is a talented song writer, singer and music producer. Her newest project is “Gracelets, Scripture Songs for Families.” Several of her CDs are distributed through Target. She has also served as a worship leader for years.
Praise FM Radio can be heard at 103.7 FM in this area, or online at PraiseFM.org.
Praise FM includes KBHL Osakis, which began here in 1985; KBHZ Willmar, which began in 1996; KCGN Milbank, S.D. starting in 1999; and KNOF St. Paul-Minneapolis, since 2008.
