Bob was born July 5, 1921 in Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Adeline (Remick) Whitten; brother, Ted; and sister, Joye.

Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley; children, Barbara of Colorado Springs, Bob Jr. (Dea) of Ely, Jake of Alexandria, Betsy (Jerry) of Sandstone, and David (Jane) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; eight grandchildren, Rebecca (Tyler), Ben, Penelope, Jake, Dana (Derek), Tory, Jack and Nathan; four great-grandchildren, Abi, Emma, Caty and Finn; sisters, June Garrison and Pat Collins; sister-in-law, Sally Gardner (Clayton); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob graduated from West High School in Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific from July 1942 to December 1944. Bob’s career was in sales management. He had his own business as a manufacturer’s representative selling pump and well supplies.

Over the years, Bob was passionate about many hobbies including duck hunting, sailing, gardening, tennis and cross-country skiing. Above all, Bob was devoted to his family. He considered the raising of his five children to be his primary goal and achievement.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 8 at 10 a.m. at Congregational UCC Church with the Rev. Scott Keehn officiating. There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the service at the church.
