Local law enforcement asks the community to flip a switch and join their effort in raising money for the family of Cold Spring Police Officer Tom Decker.
Decker was shot and killed on duty November 29 responding to a welfare check call in Cold Spring.
Blue is a uniting color in the law enforcement community and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has organized a blue light bulb fundraiser in honor of the fallen officer.
Blue light bulbs will be sold for $5 each and all funds raised will be given to Decker’s family
Through the holidays, organizers hope people will plug the blue light bulbs in to their porch light and the community will glow with blue lights to show their support for Officer Decker’s family.
The blue light bulbs can be purchased Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Douglas County Jail lobby, located at 509 3rd Avenue West, next to the Alexandria Police Department. After hours and this weekend, people can use the intercom in the jail entry way.
The bulbs will be sold through December 10.
