Two returning starters will lead the Brandon-Evansville boys as they open their 2012-2013 basketball season.
Seniors John Haseman, a 6’3” post, and Billie Juul, a 5’9” guard, will be joined by senior letter winners Patrick Schaffer, 6’ guard; Blake Satterlie, 6’2” forward; and John Huisman, 6’ guard.
“We expect contributions from seniors Zach Henneman and Mitch Anderson, juniors Tyson Thorstad and Greg Baker, and sophomores Will Schroeder, Jon Thoennes and James Huisman,” said Charger head coach John Holsten.
Baker, a junior, is the tallest of Holsten’s players at 6’4”.
“Our strengths would include good senior leadership and team chemistry,” he said. “We do not have dominating overall team size, so any success we have will first have to be realized with limiting our opponents to one shot each possession.
“Next, we really must have disciplined shot selection. We also must have solid play off the bench from inexperienced, but talented athletes.”
Defending champion Battle Lake could lead the Little Eight Conference this season, but other teams may have something to say about that.
“The Little Eight Conference has good balance top to bottom,” said Holsten, with Battle Lake being challenged for this season’s title by Hillcrest, Ashby and Underwood.”
It will be a much tougher challenge in the section, however, as defending state champion Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa returns 11 of its players from last year.
The Chargers finished last season 10-15 overall with a 4-8 LEC record.
