Master gardeners plan garden tour

The University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners of Douglas County will sponsor its annual Garden Bus Tour on Wednesday, June 18. This year’s tour will stop at four locations in and around West Central Minnesota.

Bluebird Gardens in Fergus Falls is the first stop. Owner Mark Boen will provide a tour of this 205 acres CSA that produces sustainably grown vegetables.

Dallas Flynn will be the guide at a Certified Naturally Grown farm, Forest Glen Farm in Frazee. Highlights include shiitake mushrooms, garlic, grapes and Highland cattle.

The lunch stop will be at the Cactus Restaurant in Perham, followed by a shopping trip to Jean’s the Right Plant Place. Jean’s specializes in perennials for northern gardens, including 150 varieties of day lilies, 300 hosta varieties, and 170 varieties of other perennials.

The final stop will be at Grass Roots of Ottertail. Owner Tom Meinhover has been producing flowers and plants for more than 35 years. He has a large assortment of fruit trees and annual and perennial flowers.

Cost of this tour is $30, which does not include the cost for lunch. Registration will be accepted until seats are full. Departure time and place will be provided upon registration. Estimated return time is 5:30 p.m.
