A special Halloween ‘treat’

Mary Maudal, a resident at Nelson Gables in Alexandria, shared this photo of her Easter lily that decided to “treat” her to five beautiful blooms on Halloween. She received the lily from her son during the 2013 Easter season. When through blossoming, the plant was cut back and the bulb was kept dormant for a few months. Later in the summer, it was planted in the landscape at Nelson Gables where it flourished, growing 38 inches tall and developing five buds. Prior to freeze this fall, the plant was dug, put in a large pot and brought indoors for the residents to enjoy. The plant continued to thrive, with the buds at the top growing larger and finally opening.
