4-H food stand served locally grown food at the Douglas County Fair

Things were a little bit different this year at the Douglas County Fair 4-H food stand.

When ordering meals containing beef, customers were served beef locally raised and butchered, courtesy of the Douglas Corn and Soybean Growers Association and its check offs.

The growers association supported the 4-H food stand during its Locally Grown Day with the beef and promoted the value of livestock to soybean and corn farmers.

Posters around the food stand displayed soybean, corn and livestock facts.

Livestock consumes 98 percent of the soybean meal produced in the U.S. and more than 40 percent of the corn crop.

Food stand customers had the opportunity to visit with farmers and get information from the growers association about the value local farms bring to their community.

The Douglas County Corn and Soybean Growers Association is affiliated with the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council.

The council is a nonprofit organization controlled by a board of elected soybean producers from across the state, which directs the investments of the state’s soybean check off dollars into programs designed to increase the profitability of Minnesota’s soybean farmers.
