Field Day to address farm soil health
The Land Stewardship Project will hold a Field Day on Monday, August 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Jerry Morical Farm, 9020 County Road 56 near Garfield. The Field Day is for anyone who wants to learn more about soil health and how it affects their farm.
The topics of cover crop integration into corn and the basics of interseeding into standing row crops will be addressed.
The Moricals will discuss optimal varieties and planting basics, as well as soil and yield benefits of integrating cover crops into corn.
Sharon Weyers, U.S. Department of Agriculture ag research service lab in Morris, and Jim Paulson, University of Minnesota Extension, will be on hand to talk and answer questions about soil health and cover crop benefits.
Weyers and Paulson are advisors to the Chippewa River Watershed Cover Crop Farmer Network, of which the Moricals are a part.
