Zion students excel at spelling bee
Twelve students from Zion Lutheran School in Alexandria recently participated in the Minnesota-North District Lutheran Schools Spelling Bee held in Perham. Students from seven Lutheran schools participated in the event. Zion students captured nine of the 12 1st and 2nd place awards given out at the bee. Zion students who participated include: Grade 3 - Michael Peterson (1st) and John Anderson (2nd); grade 4 - Michael Tagatz (1st) and Austin Becker (2nd); grade 5 - JeAnna Miller (1st) and Caleb Goergen (2nd); grade 6 - Mitchell Meier (1st) and Emily Safarik; grade 7 - Ashley Wussow (1st) and Kasey Martin; Grade 8 - Brett Ludwig (2nd) and Elizabeth Tagatz. Students were required to place 1st or 2nd in Zion's in-house spelling bee to be eligible to compete at the district bee.
