Zion kicks off expansion project with service
Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria broke ground on Sunday, July 11, for phase 1 of the "God's Window on 3rd" expansion project. A groundbreaking service was held around the Japanese tree lilac, which stands where the new entrance to the building will be. The $1.6 million expansion will provide more areas to minister to the community. The expansion includes a new roof and upgrades to the lighting in the sanctuary, as well as new windows in the school to make the building more "green" and energy efficient. There will be a new entry area, fireside room and the present sanctuary will be refurbished. The possibility of expanding the early childhood education for the 2011-12 school year is being studied with the separation and expansion of the early childhood classrooms. Zion Lutheran Church has been located on the corner of 3rd and Lake Street since 1888.
