Zieman is semifinalist in Geographic Bee

Kallie Zieman, daughter of Bryce and Julia Zieman of Alexandria, was notified by the National Geographic Society that she is a semifinalist eligible to compete in the 2009 Minnesota Geographic Bee.

Bees were held in grades 4 to 8 throughout the state to determine each school's Geographic Bee winner. School-level winners then took a qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society. The students with the top 100 scores were invited to compete at the state level.

The 2009 Minnesota Geographic Bee will be held on Friday, April 3 at St. Cloud State University. The state winner will receive $100, the National Geographic Atlas of the World and a trip to Washington, D.C. in May, where he or she will represent Minnesota in the national finals.

Zieman is a 7th grader at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria.
