Youth to paint and repair 50 homes near Glenwood
West Central Minnesota Communities Action, Inc., partnered with Group Cares, will sponsor a Group Cares Camp in Glenwood July 13-19, 2014.
Senior high youth and adults from across the U.S. share their time and talent as well as typically bring 15,000 pounds of canned food items to the local food shelf.
Hearts and Hands, located in Glenwood, will receive this camp’s food donations. Campers raise funds and contribute $424 on average to attend camp.
Eligible households are applicants who live within 30 miles of the Minnewaska School located in Glenwood. A selection committee will be comprised of local stakeholders such as social services, public health, law enforcement, senior programming, etc.
The criteria will be based on those 65 years or older, U.S. veteran, disability, single parent or children in household, 200 percent of federal poverty guideline and workload.
Both town and rural residents are eligible. The resident must commit to having someone at home during the time the volunteers are there. They must have close proximity to a bathroom, electricity for tools and accessible drinking water. Both labor and materials will be free to qualifying households.
Typical projects include painting (interior/exterior), wheel chair ramps, grab bars, smoke detectors, weather stripping, repairs to steps/porches, weatherization and general repair.
