YMCA opens doors for New year's celebration

The Alexandria Area YMCA will once again invite members, non-members and guests to celebrate New Year's Day at the Y for free. Family activities will be offered in the gym, and the aquatic center will be open all day. Free "try-it" group exercise classes will also be held.

The Y will be open to the entire community from noon to 5 p.m. on New Year's Day. Admittance to the Y is free, permitting members and guests provide one item, per person, to donate to the Alexandria Outreach Food Shelf.

On New Year's Eve, the Y will host youth overnight. YMCA staff will supervise and lead kids through games and activities, a movie marathon, and a pizza party. Lights out will be at 12:30 a.m. New Year's Eve pizza and a morning snack will be provided. Youth should bring a sleeping bag, swimsuit, pillow and a set of extra clothes.

The bash begins at 9 p.m. on Monday, December 31, and pick up time is at 8 a.m. the following morning. Volunteers are welcome.

New Year's Eve Kids Over-Night is $28 to YMCA members, YMCA child care families, and YMCA corporate partners, and $33 for non-members.
