Brendon Coyer got the recognition one would expect at the Osakis winter sports awards banquet after he took third at the state wrestling tournament this past season.

Coyer was named the team MVP after controlling almost every opponent he had this season on his way to a 38-5 record at 106 pounds. He led the team in major categories like team points (191), pins (26) and most wins. His older brother, Trenton Coyer, led the team in takedowns with 68.

Senior Garret Scherr earned the team's Silverstreak Award. He was second on the team in wins with a 31-8 record wrestling at 220 pounds. Scherr had a strong senior season, going 2-2 at the state meet and finished with 131 team points on the season.

Colton Waldvogel was named the team's most improved wrestler. Waldvogel should prove to be a big part of this program's future after getting his feet wet as a 7th grader this winter. He was 2-7 early in the season but finished 18-12 with 25 takedowns and 14 pins at 120 pounds.

Brandon Spanswick and Ryan Engfer rounded out the award winners with the most escapes and most reversals, respectively. Spanswick had 29 escapes on his way to a 19-16 record, while Engfer had 17 reversals and finished 27-12.

Osakis had three wrestlers finish with at least 30 wins in B. Coyer (38), T. Coyer (33) and Scherr (31). Engfer, Austin Rollag (26-13), Nils Hagen (21-11) and Peter Hagen (27-8) added solid depth for a team that went 13-10 overall.

The Silverstreaks also had individuals step up in the classroom as Waldvogel, N. Hagen, P. Hagen and Devyn Johnson were all-conference academic recipients.
