Workshop to examine impact of substance abuse on families

Children entering foster care are often affected by parental substance abuse.

Studies show that substance abuse by biological parents greatly impacts children's behavior.

Douglas County Social Services, in cooperation with the Minnesota Child Welfare Training System, will offer a free educational class for foster, adoptive and kinship caregivers and persons interested in providing foster care for children.  The training will offer resource families a framework in which to comprehend the topic of alcohol and other drug abuse. Participants will learn about different levels of chemical abuse and explore strategies for working with children and families.

The class will be held Saturday, September 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Douglas County Public Works Building, 526 Willow Drive in Alexandria.
