Women's Division: Falk wins battle of former teammates
Samantha Falk was crowned the Women's Division champion Saturday after winning a battle over her former Minnewaska teammate, Sarah Roering.
Both golfers were on the 2010 state championship Minnewaska golf team, and last Saturday they were locked into a match for a Resorters Golf Tournament title.
Falk stormed out to a one-up lead after the first hole. As it turned out, she would never lose the lead all day.
Falk took a 3-up lead with back-to-back wins on Nos. 3 and 4 after Roering shot bogeys on both holes.
Roering would get one back with a birdie on No. 7, but she trailed by two holes after play was finished on the front nine.
Twice Falk led by 3-up on the back nine after Roering shot a double bogey on No. 11 and a bogey on No. 14.
The two traded holes on the back nine, but Falk's lead would never fall. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for Falk after play concluded on No. 17.
The road to a championship was not easy for Falk.
In the semifinals, she had to defeat her current Gustavus Adolphus College teammate, Elizabeth Strom. She put up quite a fight, even shooting a hole-in-one on No. 7. But Falk was able to win the match 2-1.
Falk also had to defeat current Alexandria high school golfer Natalie Amundson in the quarterfinals. She was able to do that in a 4-3 victory.
