Women Caring for the Land gathering set
The Land Stewardship Project’s next Women Caring for the Land gathering will focus on how perennial “third crops” can add value to the two-crop system of corn and soybeans.
This event is free and open to all women farmland owners with preference given to those who lease their land for agricultural production.
The gathering will take place Tuesday, August 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Seppanen Organic Farm near Alexandria.
Registration and coffee begin at 9:30 a.m., and lunch will be potluck with soup and bread provided. To reserve a spot, call Rebecca White of the Land Stewardship Project at (320) 305-9685 or email email@example.com.
The event will feature Lansing Shepard and Paula Westmoreland of the Perennial Lands Project as guests.
Shepard and Westmoreland will discuss the ways perennials can add diversity, wildlife habitat and income on the farm. They will also share specific “opportunity maps” of a traditional row crop acreage and a more diversified pasture and vegetable production farmscape.
