Winter activities planned at Lake Carlos State Park
On Saturday, January 21, Lake Carlos State Park will offer two opportunities for visitors to participate in winter activities.
At 10 a.m., discover the fun and fundamentals of cross-country skiing. Bring your own skis or rent from a local vendor. The two-hour class will include basic instruction and a naturalist-led ski. Class size is limited to the first 15 registrants. Participants should meet at the park's Visitors Center.
At 2 p.m., a family snowshoe outing will be offered. Participants will look for signs of wildlife and play tracking games in the snow. Limited pairs of snowshoes are available to the first registrants. If there is not enough snow, participants will hike on foot. The trail is one and a half miles long and takes approximately two hours.
Vehicles entering the park need either a $5-daily or $25-annual state park permit, available at the park.
To register, reserve equipment or for more information, call the park at (320) 852-7200.
The park is located 10 miles north of Alexandria on Highway 29 and a mile and a half west on County Road 38.
