What toys are recommended for what age?
To the editor:
Toys for young infants of birth through 6 months, are things they can reach for, hold, suck on, shake and make noise with.
Older infants of 7 to 12 months should have things they can play pretend with, and things to use with large muscles.
Toys for 3- to 6-year-olds are things to solve problems, things to pretend and build, and things to create with.
A website that lists good ideas for toys of all ages is naeyc.org/toys. It lists age groups and recommendations for certain types of toys to buy as presents.
