Weak defense is like putting lipstick on a pig

To the editor:

The old saying, “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear,” means you can’t make a quality product out of inferior materials. But that’s just what first term Democrat State Representative Jay McNamar is trying to do with his recent defense of the bungled MNsure/Obamacare system that he and his fellow metro liberal legislators voted for.

More than 140,000 Minnesotans will lose their health care coverage and thousands more Minnesota families are facing huge premium increases. Like its federal counterpart, the MNsure website has been a disaster to navigate and even before it launched, sensitive personal identification was leaked. Customers have experienced wait times on the phone in excess of one hour and MNsure is so riddled with errors that a non-partisan independent auditor recommended it be scrapped!

Now, with the system in shambles, [McNamara] asks us to be patient, wait a bit longer and, no doubt, bailout MNsure with even more taxpayer dollars because, as McNamar says, “More work needs to be done.”

Sorry, Rep. McNamar, no amount of apology will erase the fact that your vote for MNsure was the wrong vote for your rural Minnesota constituents.

To use another porcine-related metaphor, your weak defense of MNsure is like “putting lipstick on a pig.” In the end, MNsure is a huge and costly mistake.
