We each choose what to believe

Email

To the editor:

The Minneapolis Star Tribune Religion column (June 17) reported on an Associated Press – GFK poll: “Some scientists aren’t smiling over a recent poll:”

51 percent question Earth being 14 billion years old.

42 percent question Darwin’s theory of evolution.

72 percent somewhat or extremely confident the universe is so complex there must be a supreme being guiding its creation.

91 percent believe there is complex genetic code that helps determine who we are.

Genesis 1 says God spoke the worlds into existence. The planets are hung in space with no visible means holding them up. Earth travels 1,000 miles an hour while rotating once every 24 hours and circles the sun once each year. God is in control.

Evolution needs something to start from. God created our world out of nothing.

We each choose which to believe. It takes faith either way.

God created Adam out of the dust of the earth and breathed his life into him. We have an eternal spirit. When Adam and Eve sinned, they brought the whole human race under the curse of sin and death, as well as the earth.

God showed His great love for every person when He sent His son Jesus to earth to live and die for the sins of the whole world. He is our substitute when we choose to turn from our sin and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. To reject Him means you will pay for your own sins forever away from God.

We are saved by God’s grace and mercy. I heard this recently: Grace is getting what we don’t deserve. Mercy is not getting what we do deserve.
