The West Central Area volleyball team hopes their five returning seniors will lead them to a top half finish in the Prairie Conference standings this season.

"We have a solid core returning of many girls who had significant varsity experience," head coach Beth Hill said. "We have some girls who will help step up as leaders and be role models for others."

Last year the Knights finished with an overall record of 8-17, which included a conference record of 2-8. They won their first round of the section tournament against Ashby before losing to Underwood.

Key returning seniors for the Knights this season include middle blocker Holly Van Kempen, setter Christina Kruize, outside hitter Tiana Christenson, defensive specialist Amber Oberg and right side hitter Genavie Haraldson.

Other key players that Hill pointed to for this season include junior outside hitter Doranna Blascyk, junior outside hitter Alysa Aanerud, junior outside hitter Jordan Anderson and junior setter Kiersten Sabolik.

"This is a hard working group of talented individuals," Hill said. "They have a ton of potential and are passionate about volleyball. These girls put in a ton of work this summer and improved very much."

The Knights expect to finish in the top half of the conference and compete for the championship. Osakis is one team Hill expects will be very strong this year.

They also hope to make a run in the section playoffs.

"We will have a very strong yet differentiated attack with the different players we have," Hill said. "We will have a lot of different looks at the net, which will make us harder to defend."
