The West Central Area girls’ basketball team ran past section foe Ashby in a 56-26 game last Thursday night.

“It was a good game and a good win, but we know we are capable of better,” head coach Beth Hill said. “We missed a lot of shots in the paint and at times, tried to rush our offense.”

The Knights led 30-15 at the break after an Amber Oberg last-second shot and extended that lead throughout the second half.

“The second half was much more controlled on our part,” Hill said. “We had some truly excellent offensive possessions and were able to take some time off the clock, while taking care of the ball. Defensively, we picked up the intensity and made the changes we talked about at half. Overall, it was a very good night and a great first week of games.”

The win moved WCA to 2-0 on the season. Holly Van Kempen was the catalyst with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal. Doranna Blascyk and Jordan Anderson each added 10 points, as well.
