WCA girls fall at the buzzer
The West Central Area girls fell victim to a last-second three pointer by Upsala as the Cardinals beat the Knights 66-65 on Tuesday night in Prairie Conference play.
“We played flat and didn’t make the changes we needed to make,” WCA head coach Beth Hanson said. “We have had a lot of games that we have played below our level of play but we snuck by with a win. I hope this can be used as a wakeup call for us and help to light a fire for us as we enter the end of the regular season and soon into playoffs.”
Abby Van Kempen had another big night with 19 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals. Holly Van Kempen added 17 points and five rebounds, while Kylee Fernholz had 11 points and Christina Kruize had eight.
“We need to play better and execute our game plan,” Hanson said. “Upsala made a high percentage of their shots and wanted it more than we did. We need to regroup and find that tenacity.”
