The West Central Area girls’ basketball team celebrated a season in which it finished second in Section 6A by hosting its annual awards program on Monday.

In the team voted awards, Tiana Christenson was named both Hardest Worker and Most Valuable Player. Other team elected awards went to Christina Kruize and Abby Van Kempen as Shining Knights, Lauryn McLaughlin as the Most Improved Player, Kylee Fernholz as the Most Valuable Defensive Player, Holly Van Kempen as Most Valuable Offensive Player and Danna Sabolik as recipient of the Coach’s Award.

Abby Van Kempen, Holly Van Kempen and Christenson each took home two statistical awards for the Knights. Abby Van Kempen led the Knights in rebounds and steals, Christenson led the team in assists and free throws, and Holly Van Kempen was a leader in shooting percentage and points.

Both Holly Van Kempen and Abby Van Kempen were recognized by the Prairie Conference in receiving all-conference awards, and Christenson was named all-conference honorable mention.

The Knights were also rewarded for their work in the classroom. Christenson, Holly Van Kempen, Kruize and Fernholz were all named Academic All State, an award given to seniors who have a 3.8 or higher GPA.
