Wallace L. Simonson, age 82, of Faribault, died on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at Keystone Communities of Faribault.

Funeral services will be held at First English Lutheran Church, Faribault, on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Richard L. Jorgensen officiating. Interment with veteran's military rites will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.

Wallace Leigh, the son of Simon and Clara (Kackman) Simonson, was born on Feb. 8, 1926 in Breckenridge. He graduated from Morris High School in 1944 and also received degrees from the University of North Dakota, North Dakota State School of Science and the University of South Carolina, Columbia. He was a teacher in Wheaton and Park River, N.D. schools prior to coming to Faribault where he taught for 20 years prior to his retirement. Wally served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He married Claire Grandjean on Dec. 25, 1947 in Hancock. She preceded him in death on April 5, 1998.

He is survived by four children, Neil (and Margaret) Simonson of Morris, Jean (and Bruce) Underbakke of Morristown, Charles (and Beth) Simonson of Owatonna and Julie Bedell of Olympia, Wash.; four grandchildren, Holly and Leigh Bedell and Charles and Theodore Simonson; one great granddaughter, Sage Clark; three sisters, Eileen Nelson and Marge Raasaka, both of Grand Forks, N.D. and Judith Dalzell of Edina; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; one son in infancy, Leigh Lionel Simonson; one daughter in law, Joanne Simonson; one brother, Lionel Simonson; and one sister, Carol Goven.
