Walk MS participants will help fight multiple sclerosis on May 4
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Upper Midwest Chapter will host the 2014 Walk MS event in Alexandria on Sunday, May 4 at 10 a.m. The walk will begin and end at Voyager Elementary School, 203 County Road 44 Northwest, Alexandria.
Participants can choose between different route options and participate individually or as a team. Though walkers are encouraged to fundraise, there is no donation requirement. Volunteers are also needed.
Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system that interrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and body.
According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
More than 9,000 walkers are expected to participate in one of the 33 Walk MS events throughout the Upper Midwest Chapter territory and to help raise nearly $2 million.
Dollars raised support programs and services for more than 17,000 people with MS and their families in the Upper Midwest Chapter area. They also fund research to help slow the disease, restore lost function and end MS.
