Voters encouraged to register at State Fair
Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie invited Minnesotans who are attending the State Fair to stop by the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State's booth in the Education Building to check their voter registration status and register right at the fair. Voters need to pre-register to vote by October 16 to be on their polling place roster on Election Day.
"Voter pre-registration is important," said Secretary of State Ritchie. "Our office's outreach staff will be at the fair every day helping voters to register and get ready to vote on November 6."
Minnesotans will still be able to register to vote on Election Day, just like they have for over the past 40 years, but pre-registering will save voters time at the polling place and pre-registered voters do not need to bring additional information with them when they go to vote. Voters can find additional registration information at www.mnvotes.org.
Visitors to the Office's state fair booth will be able to check on their voter registration status, register to vote, look up where their polling place is located after redistricting and apply for an absentee ballot. It will also be an opportunity to pick up a pocket edition Blue Book, and Vote in Honor of a Veteran lapel pin, and practice casting a ballot by voting for their favorite Minnesota fair food, pro sports team, state park and best lake.
Back again this year due to popular demand will be "Civics Saturday" on both Saturday, August 25 and Saturday September 1, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. These events will celebrate youth involvement in democracy by introducing students, teachers, and parents to the many civic focused resources, contests, and organizations that are available throughout our state.
The Office outreach staff is also excited to be a part of Military Appreciation Day at the Fair on Tuesday, August 28.
The State Fair Booth for the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State is located in the Education Building at 1372 Cosgrove Street. The booth will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Thursday, August 24 through Monday, September 3. Further information on elections and voter outreach is available at: www.mnvotes.org.
"I encourage eligible Minnesota voters who need to register to vote to do so at the State Fair. It only takes a couple of minutes, and they will be ready to go." said Secretary of State Mark Richie. "Then, I hope to see them turnout at the polls as a part of Democracy's big get-together--Election Day, November 6."
