Ashby learned why Underwood is at the top of the Little Eight Conference volleyball standings Thursday night as the Arrows were unable to answer the play of Rocket Carly Masloski.

Masloski, who may eventually be named the LEC's most valuable player this season, reached her 1,000th career kill in the third set of the Arrows' 25-2, 25-17, 25-5 loss to the Rockets.

Underwood is 9-0 in LEC play and 18-4 overall, earning the Rockets several votes in the latest Class A poll.

"We started the match on our heels in the serve receive department, and it just got worse from then on," said Ashby head coach Brenda Johnson. "The Rocket servers were on fire and so were their hitters.

"After the first set, the Arrows regrouped and played the Rockets point-for-point. We were able to slow some attacks down behind the blocking of Becca Hansen and get some much-needed good passes from our back row.

"The Rockets just have too many weapons for our defense, and they kept us guessing on several attacks," she said.

Meg Roley was 14-for-16 hitting with three kills, while Paige Nelson had five digs and served 4-for-4.

Cassandra Jordan had seven digs and served 5-for-5, and Amber Sundal led the team with five assists. Hansen was 5-for-5 serving with one ace block and went 10-for-12 at the net with two kills.

"My girls never quit playing tonight, even when they were down by a lot," said Johnson.
