Vogel captures 11th win at Viking Speedway
As the grey skies worked their way past the Viking Speedway, dropping quite a bit of rain, track officials got to work packing in the track so that the crowd could watch another exciting night of racing this past Saturday.
Winners included local favorite Jeff Crouse and Justin Vogel of Brooten, who captured his 11th feature win for the year by taking the Street Stock. Other winners included Jordan Fisher in the Hornet Feature, Osakis’ Dustin Karl in the Pure Stock, Jamie Thorstad in his Midwest Modified and Brady Gerdes of Villard in the Modified Feature.
The night started with seven pure stocks and an exciting six-lap feature.
Jon Crouse and Brock Volker led the field to the green flag with Crouse capturing the lead spot after lap one.
With four laps to go, Brendon Scott and Crouse were side by side. Scott pulled ahead with Dustin Karl on the heels of Crouse. On the back side of the track, Scott spun out, causing Crouse and Karl to collide. The race was called and the flag man raised the checkered flag.
Jon Crouse was named the Pure Stock Feature winner, but Crouse was later disqualified due to not passing tech. The feature win was then awarded to Karl.
Vogel grabbed an early lead as the WISSOTA Street Stocks filed onto the track.
As the laps began to wind down, Jordan Tollakson blasted past Ryan Satter to capture second and charged toward Vogel. As the checkered flag rose, Vogel captured the feature win.
The Sower Power WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next to hit the field with 15 laps on the board as the racing action began with Cody Lee bolting to the front of the pack.
With nine laps to go in turn four, Cody Lee, the race leader, suffered a flat tire as he made his way into the pits for a fix and then started at the back of the pack. The track was reset and Thorstad took the green flag lead while Hoffman and Travis Saurer raced side by side for the second and third spot.
A caution again came out with eight laps to go, and Thorstad led the cars around the track to an exciting restart as he went three wide with Hoffman and Saurer. Thorstad was able to pull away from Saurer with three laps to go. He bolted to the lead after one final caution as he took the checkered flag in the feature after that.
The Alex Refrigeration Super Stocks set up for a 20-lap showdown with 12 cars on the track as Bryan Hellerman took an early lead. It didn’t take long for Jon Stepan and Jeff Crouse to charge their way through the pack.
Crouse raced his way into the third position and went on to pass Hellerman. With two laps left of the board, Crouse finally captured his lead spot and pulled away from Mike Peterson.
Jordan Fischer took an early lead as a field of nine Hornets hit the track.
With seven laps to go, Fischer continued to pull away from the pack with Mike Hart and Parker Bilden following. That’s exactly where Fischer stayed as he pulled away for the feature win.
The T&S Electric and Diamond Buick GMC WISSOTA Modified ended the evening with a 20-lap showdown.
Josh Thoennes and Brady Gerdes quickly charged their way in to the racing action. Gerdes dived low, passing the front leaders and quickly positioned himself into first. Scot Danzeisen charged his way to second, reeling in Gerdes. Jason Thoennes also entered the racing action, heating up the battle for that lead spot.
Gerdes quickly bolted to the lead with Danzeisen in second after a caution. Jason Thoennes wound up working his way into second place, but couldn’t quite reel in Gerdes as the Villard driver took the checkered flag.
The Viking Speedway will host the Kluver Memorial Super Stock Special and Hall of Fame night this Saturday with Larry Crouse and Ryan Muzik being inducted into the Viking Speedway Hall of Fame. It’s also the Jerry Kluver Memorial $1,500 to win Super Stock Special with racing action starting at 6:30 p.m.
