Viking history is topic of forum
The last Saturday in April is designated Heritage Society Research Forum Day. In conjunction with this, the Kensington Area Heritage Society will sponsor a forum on Saturday, April 27 at the Community Center in Kensington.
Registration starts at 10 a.m., with the morning session beginning at 10:30 a.m. There will be a break at noon for lunch at the Kensington Café, and the discussion will resume at 1 p.m.
Several individuals will lead various discussion topics, including the mooring stone and runic research, plans and changes at the Ohman family farmstead, additions to the museum collections, and highlights of the past Viking Research and Heritage Society forums.
The Kensington Museum will be open for tours and research following the forum.
The Kensington Area Heritage Society has sponsored a forum each year since 2008 to discuss the latest research pertinent to the Kensington runestone. The idea for this gathering grew out of the Viking Research Group, which held its first meeting in Starbuck in 1994.
When organizers announced their intention to retire, the Heritage Society agreed to continue the tradition of holding a forum that would provide for the free-flowing exchange of information.
Everyone interested in preserving and sharing history, whether it be family history or medieval settlement/exploration, is encouraged to attend.
