VIDEO: LA Racing Team piglets highlight Forada Days
Competitors squealed around the racetrack on Saturday in Forada while spectators packed the stands to watch the Leader Area (LA) Racing Team tear up a hay-lined oval track.
The team of 2- to 3-month-old piglets traveled from their usual stomping grounds at The Bear's Den bar in Motley to take part in the Forada Days festival. LA Racing pigs have their own pit crew and sponsors.
Why pig racing instead of stockcars?
"Not as much maintenance," said Jeremy Dauer with the LA Racing Team.
Dauer was in Forada hosting the show while his father, Gary, was conducting another race. There are approximately 50 LA Racing pigs running the circuits each season.
LA Racing Team has road-tripped as far as San Antonio, Texas for shows in the winter months. The Dauers have been racing for 10 years and draw crowds of 300-400 people on weekends at The Bear's Den.
Prior to the pig races, Forada held a 5k run/walk, kids pedal pull, firemen's water wars and a parade. Alex Aces, Runestone Rockettes and the Johari Tribe Belly Dancers also entertained.Crystal Dey
