VIDEO: Confident dreamers, Jefferson High School Class of 2013
A picture perfect late spring day set the scene for the Jefferson High School Class of 2013 graduates as they marched across the stage at Citizen's Field in Alexandria on Sunday.
Gowns and tassels blew in the breeze while Class of 2013 student speakers Megan Orpen and Chad Peterson shared stories of their journey to the final day of high school and the path stretched before them and their classmates.
An even 300 students received their diplomas at Jefferson's 54th graduation ceremony; the first was held in 1959. Following Superintendent Richard Lahn's presentation of the class, tassels were turned, caps were catapulted and commencement was officially complete.
"It was so nice to celebrate outdoors this year," said Jill Johnson, communications coordinator for School District 206.
Next year's Class of 2014 will be Jefferson's final graduating class before students migrate to their new homerooms in Alexandria Area High School. Johnson said weather will likely be a factor in plans for the last commencement.
