Verna Robison, 96

Verna Elvina Robison, 96, Ashby, died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Bethany Home in Alexandria.

Verna was born June 21, 1917 in St. Olaf Township, rural Ashby, the daughter of John and Carrie (Knutson) Salvevold. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church and attended Country School District 2.

Verna and Eugene W. Robison were married on June 4, 1939 in Bethel Lutheran Church by Pastor Blikstad. After their marriage, they lived on a farm by Ashby and farmed on the Robison home farm. Verna worked beside her husband farming, milking their Jersey dairy herd, along with working in the fields. She had her own John Deere tractor.

Verna had a large garden. She enjoyed quilting, animals and loved children. In her retirement years, she did a lot of volunteer work at the Ashby Senior Center. Verna was a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was active with the Ladies Aid. She had been a member of the St. Olaf Homemakers Group, spent many years involved with 4-H and had been a 4-H club leader.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Robison Hart of Garfield; three grandchildren, Christopher (Susan) Robison of California, Renae (Aaron) Klemm of California, and Theresa Frickey of Idaho; two great-grandchildren, Cooper Klemm and Megan Frickey; one niece, Mary Lou Schlefsky of Alexandria; and numerous relatives and friends.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Walter Robison; two sons, Walter John Robison and Eugene Vernon Robison; and two sisters, Ethel Erickson and Bernice Croft.

The funeral service will be Monday, October 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Battle Lake.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m., with a 4:30 p.m. prayer service at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Ashby and one hour prior to the service.

The officiant will be the Rev. Todd Hylden. Interment will be at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery.
