UPDATE TUESDAY: Fatal stabbing in Alexandria Saturday

One man is dead after a stabbing attack in Alexandria on Saturday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m. Alexandria police and Douglas County Sheriff deputies responded to a 911 call that a man had been stabbed in the chest at 1705 6th Avenue East, Lincoln Estates. The county medical examiner was called to the scene by 1:20 p.m. to confirm Phillip Altstadt's death.

Altstadt, 28, of Alexandria was deceased on the lawn when officers arrived as a result of an apparent stabbing. Altstadt knew his attacker, according to police reports.

The suspect, Kody Klimek, 25, of Alexandria fled on foot. Scanner traffic reported a call for K-9 assistance at 1:30 p.m. to conduct an article search which was quickly cancelled.

Klimek was apprehended at gunpoint within 40 minutes of the emergency call.

The Alexandria Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota BCA is conducting an investigation. The Minnesota BCA Mobile Crime Lab is assisting with the investigation.

Update: A memorial service for Altstadt will take place this Thursday, June 6, at 1 p.m. at Christina Lake Lutheran Church, rural Evansville, with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Evansville is handling the arrangements.
