UPDATE TUESDAY: ALP reports pink, purple discoloration in water
Water customers of Alexandria Light and Power (ALP) Utilities may notice a pink or purple discoloration to their water.
This was caused by a valve that malfunctioned and released increased levels of potassium permanganate to enter the water, according to a news release issued by ALP Utilities.
This substance is used to remove iron. The water is completely safe to use and drink , however, ALP recommends waiting to wash clothes until the water is clear.
