A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Nokomis Street and 18th Avenue in Alexandria sent two people to the hospital Monday.

The crash happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. between a Ford Taurus and a Mercury Mountaineer. A 17-year-old male was driving the Taurus east on 18th Avenue when he reportedly pulled out in front of the north-bound Mountaineer, which was driven by Martin Holmquist, 52, of Alexandria, according to the Alexandria Police Department. Both the juvenile driver and his 43-year-old passenger, Timothy Connor Jr. of Villard, were transported to the Douglas County Hospital. Connor was later transferred by LifeLink helicopter to the St. Cloud Hospital. As of Tuesday morning, he remained hospitalized in fair condition. Holmquist was not injured.

The Taurus ended up on its side, leaning against the Mountaineer in the yard of an apartment building. The Alexandria Fire Department was called to extricate one of the victims trapped inside.

A light pole was knocked down in the collision.

Agencies responding included the police and fire departments, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, North Ambulance and Alexandria Light and Power.
