UPDATE: 7 A.M. TUESDAY: Firefighters battle house fire near Alexandria w/video
Firefighters from three departments battled a raging house fire near Lake L'Homme Dieu northeast of Alexandria Monday afternoon.
Carlos firefighters were called to the blaze at 2580 County Road 120 NE at 1:49 p.m. When they arrived, they found flames and smoke coming from the second-floor vents of the home, owned by Dr. Steven Longbotham and his wife, Dr. Sandra Johnson.
The Carlos Fire Department requested mutual aid from the Alexandria and Miltona fire departments. North Ambulance also responded.
The homeowners arrived on scene and everyone was accounted for. Firefighters rescued at least two dogs from the blaze.
Within an hour, the fire burned through the entire side of the two-story home that faced the lake, causing the upper portions of the home to collapse.
Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours. Some clean-up was still going on into Monday evening.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the state fire marshal.
The home is located just south of the Frenchman Cove Townhomes and the Krueger Creek public access.
