UPDATE 11:05 P.M. Wolbersen, Homan win sheriff's race; Miller and Nettestad move on

Incumbent Sheriff Troy Wolbersen and State Trooper Rich Homan were winners of the primary race for Douglas County sheriff. They'll face each other in the general election this fall.

Owen Miller, an Alexandria City Council member, and Chuck Nettestad, former Alexandria police chief, prevailed in the Douglas County Commissioner District 5 primary.

All 37 precincts have now reported. Election officials discovered an error in one of the smaller precincts, Urness Township, early this morning, which did not change the outcome. Here are the new unofficial results:


Greg Windhurst -- 1,004

Scot Umlauf -- 788

Troy Wolbersen -- 1,738

Rich Homan -- 1,276

With 37 of 37 precincts reporting.


Chuck Nettestad -- 336

Elroy Frank -- 108

Owen Miller -- 356

With 3 of 3 precincts reporting.

The top two vote-getters in each race will go on to appear on the ballot for the general election on November 4.

Also, in the Republican primary for Minnesota House District 12A, Jeff Backer was the winner over Nancy Taffe. He received 338 votes to Taffe's 126.
